Bangkok’s marathon tradition took shape in the late 1980s, when the National Jogging Association of Thailand set out to establish a signature running event for the capital. Its first Bangkok Marathon in 1988 attracted more than 17,000 participants, laying the foundations for a sporting tradition that would welcome runners from around the world.

On 10 January 2027, the 37th Bangkok Marathon continues that story, bringing runners to Sanam Chai Road beside the Grand Palace.

For international runners, this is a chance to combine a personal achievement with a journey through Thailand’s capital. Come for the challenge, become part of the legacy and give yourself time to discover Bangkok beyond the finish line.

A Legendary Race in Bangkok’s Historic Heart

A marathon’s identity comes from its people and its setting. Bangkok Marathon brings both together: a community built across decades and a start-and-finish location beside one of Thailand’s most recognisable landmarks.

Race morning offers a different perspective on the city. Streets usually associated with sightseeing become a meeting place for runners sharing the same anticipation, each carrying months of preparation and a goal of their own.

Whether you are pursuing a personal best, completing your first overseas race or travelling with your running club, the experience becomes part of your own running history.

That is the appeal of Run the Legacy: joining an established tradition while creating a memory that belongs entirely to you.
